Good Idea |
| Description |
In a two-day service-learning activity, elementary school children thought about ways they can affect animals and the environment. The first day consisted of watching an educational slide show on birds, playing a nesting game, and making bird feeders. The second day involved visiting a local nursing home where children share what they have learned about birds with the seniors and hang the feeders for the residents. |
| Goal / Mission |
The goal of the project was to find a way for elementary school children to learn about the environment and participate in community service. |
| Results / Accomplishments |
This program was conducted with more than 150 elementary students at five elementary schools during two months in Lewiston, ID. The project allowed young children to participate in community service, provided an enjoyable intergenerational activity for seniors, and taught young children about local birds and their environment. |
