Description The Pasadena Community Asthma Program (PCAP) is a part of Huntington Hospital’s Community Outreach department. This program provides free classes on asthma prevention and management and offers families free medical screenings at their asthma clinics. The classes are designed from the National Institute of Health (NIH) guidelines. The goal of the grogram is to help patients have a better understanding of asthma and learn to communicate their needs to their health care provider. In addition, the program aims to decrease the number of asthma-related emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and missed work or school days.

This program is supported by the Kathryne Beynon Foundation,
Good Hope Medical Foundation, and the Pasadena Respiratory Health Foundation.
Goal / Mission The program’s goal is to help families prevent and/or successfully manage asthma.
Results / Accomplishments In 2009, 198 individuals participated in PCAP’s education classes. In addition, there were 244 patient visits at the 34 offered clinics. In 2008, 98% of the 327 individuals who attended education classes experienced a decrease in Emergency Department visits post participation.
