Description The Becoming Center is a state-of-the-art facility that seeks to provide a haven for those seeking total health, fitness, and wellness. A Post Rehabilitation program is available to persons discharged from medical services and to persons with chronic
conditions or disabilities. Membership fees are charged; a benevolent fund can be tapped for those who cannot pay all or part of them. Every Becoming Center membership includes a fitness evaluation, an orientation to services, and personal training sessions. Other features include a heated pool, yoga room, and private treatment rooms for alternative therapies such as massage and acupuncture. Membership benefits also include free classes and seminars, discounted prices on alternative therapies, and daily use of exercise equipment.
Goal / Mission The goal of the center is to help members achieve total health, fitness, and wellness.
Results / Accomplishments About 800 persons, residing in a six-mile radius of the facility, have memberships; in 2001, an additional 1,500 persons participated in non-member activities such as health education and exercise classes. The average age is 55. The center reports an annual retention rate of 70 percent.

Quarterly evaluations for all members enable the exercise staff to appraise progress, considering such factors as members’ initial exercise goals, exercise log, and interviews on the exercise program. At the six-month evaluation, a body mass index test may be repeated. Post rehabilitation evaluations document progress on initial goals and physicians’ recommendations for the exercise plan. Evaluation outcomes are reported to the physician.
